Perhaps the quintessential Italian food wine, Sangiovese is famously characterized by red and white checkered table cloths, little piazza trattorias and wines from the Tuscany region that range from rustica to sophisticated. This Italian ambassador can trace its roots back to Roman times in Italy and indeed was the vine of choice, cherished and transferred by immigrants to California in the 1800's.
TASTING NOTES
Tasting Notes
This year's Sangiovese comes from vines planted
in deep clay soil giving the wine depth and darker
fruit flavors. A complex bouquet of dark plum,
orange peel, cinnamon, and mint layered over
dark blackberries. Red flesh plum skin show on
the mouth with hints of orange peel and porcini
mushrooms. The wine is juicy with a drying finish
like biting into a sweet pomegranate seed.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Food Pairing Notes
This wine is an excellent choice for summer BBQ's as the flavor of the wood char is a nice match for
this wine. Try a marbled Bisteca Florentine, whole roasted chicken, or smoked duck.
