Iris Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills AVA
Pinot Noir has been a major focus in my career over the last 30 years. My major interest has always been what is now famous as the Sta. Rita Hills. Through Brewer-Clifton, we were making Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from this area long before it was officially named. Iris’s vineyard is a very special place farmed by Francisco Ramirez and producing classic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit on Sweeney Canyon Road in the Sta. Rita Hills. This wine continues a long legacy of production from this area.
Cranberry and wild strawberry are wrapped in a bramble of sage and Herbs de Provence aromas. Dark molasses and balsamic notes follow. Truly complex and deep in flavors, this wine can take hours to open and show all of its intensity. Black fig and cranberry linger on the finish with a hint of soy.
Food Pairing Notes
The earthy tones and umami flavors of this wine lend it nicely to rich lamb dishes as well as mushrooms and beef preparations.
